The PHILOSOPHY OF A PHOTOGRAPH or the ZEN OF A LENSE:
Time passes at an amazing speed and with it we barely have the ability to appreciate the moments before they are passed. I capture those moments - those memories. School pictures and staged photos mark the time but do not capture the true moments and feelings from watching your family at play and being themselves. But those are the moments and pictures we treasure over time. The flash of a smile, a twinkle in the eyes, or an instant of concentration is there to see.
It sounds cliché but I really am passionate about photographs. And I want you to see the wonder in them too. They are little treasure chests of memories.
CATCH THE MOMENTS BEFORE THEY FLY
No One Likes to Have Their Photograph Taken!
Look, the truth is practically no one likes to have their photo taken but most of us like to look back to the time captured in photographs. You like to see your parents when they were young, your children when they were happy, you at a time when you just couldn't appreciate the beauty and power of your self. I tell my friends - save the photo and put it in a drawer - in a year or so pull it out and you will be surprised how good you look. It's true.
Snapshots taken by a relative or friend with a "good camera" or on our cell phones are rarely flattering, nor do they capture the feeling of the moment. A good photograph of you or your family catches something more. Those are the pictures we treasure over time.
I catch lighting in a jar - those momentary flickers of light and flashes of splendor.

SO WHO AM I?
Hello!! I am Julie Goldstein.
My path to becoming Firefly Studios is a long one. I have been taking photographs for most of my life one way or the other with a few interruptions along the way. Yes, I remember film, polaroids, Kodak brownies, instamatics, hand held light meters ... when dinosaurs roamed the earth. Let's just say it's been awhile. So when my son was born - 20 years ago - I became far more dedicated to the craft. I have hardly watched a sporting event, family event, outing, party, holiday....without a camera attached to my face. About five years ago I transitioned from my other day job to full time photography. Firefly Studios was then born.
